Having been on such a stop-start path to success I wanted to share with you my experiences.

The Beginning
I had a huge blew with my boss. I felt like I was giving everything I had to that business to the detriment of every other aspect of my life.

As you can imagine feeling accused of a whole stack of stuff I didn’t feel really happy about the situation. However I remained as calm as I could and I made the decision to find a resource within myself to allow me to let go and move on. This was not easy but I not only succeeded I felt a huge sense of relief and like a weight had lifted from me.

So I asked for a new opportunity and the eyes to see it.

The Email
As if by magic an email landed in my inbox inviting me to an Ultimate Marketing Seminar to be held over three days. It was free. I had no idea where it came from.

I say by magic because after asking for opportunities it seemed like my golden ticket. I decided to pay the minimal fee to upgrade to a VIP so that I could mix with the speakers for cocktails. After all I had asked for the opportunity and rubbing shoulders with people like Siimon Reynolds and John Carlton seemed to me to be an opportunity I couldn’t miss.

The Event
As I sat there over those days my brain ran wild. I found myself taking notes on the speakers points whilst simultaneously having 3 or 4 different project ideas running to which I kept adding the gold nuggets I was learning as they applied to the project. This was baffling a woman near me!

But I was in overdrive. It was like someone had plugged me in and flicked the switch. One of the biggest things that happened was I realised I knew more than I thought I did!!

My Eyes Opened
Many of the speakers were working online. Much of the pitched info was about online success.

As I listened to them I felt like the answers to all the questions I had about the website of the business I worked in were being answered. Suddenly I could see how to make some things actually work. Not only did I feel plugged in, it was like someone had flicked on the light switch as well.

James Schramko
This guy impressed me. I remember him because he was not like the other presenters. He was much more down to earth and seemed more free with his information. He stood out as a genuine Aussie amongst some American hype!

I decided to do his internet marketing training – Underground Profit Systems. Remembering at this point that I had gotten to an event by being on a list I didn’t know I was on and not even knowing what a list was. It was an interesting thing to sign up to do internet marketing! It just seemed like an answer I was looking for.

Proving it to Myself
The amount James teaches in a short time makes you feel like an expert. It is astonishing that in 2 days I could actually learn as much as I did. After the first day I went home and looked at repeating for myself what I’d learned. I did keyword research and I looked at some websites for the keywords they targeted.

That was an eye opener. OK I wasn’t exactly proficient and I had questions but I was able to find the business I was in was targeting keywords that aren’t searched and missing some sitters. I found someone else I knew – who had paid an SEO consultant a lot of money – could only be found if I searched the exact business name and hit pages from Australia.

After the event I did some keyword research – not well mind you. I signed up to an affiliate program. I bought reseller hosting. I bought a domain name and directed it to my name servers. I added the domain to my account and built an affiliate page. I was working full time so did this at night. Amazingly to me I didn’t know what any of that meant only days before and I pushed myself through every problem, barrier and roadblock I faced.

On day 3 I had a page up and I sat down and I cried. This was such a momentous achievement for me that I cried with joy. You now the feeling when you have done something which you have found so challenging and which is so out of your comfort zone all you can do is sit down and cry. That was me.

I have to confess now that I have really down nothing with that site and because of that I have not made a sale on that program or page. It was like I was so proud of myself I just forgot to take all the other steps!

So more of my travels later but that was the beginning of my internet marketing journey. If I can do it anyone can!
